The Annual CLIC Fun Run for 2018 was a huge success! Every year CLIC students do their part to raise mission critical funds for our school by participating in the annual Fun Run. This year our children exhibited great ingenuity in their efforts to raise funds for their class. Some made videos and used social media to campaign for their donations, others hosted lemonade stands at the local farmers market and asked at sports games and other community functions. All of the combined efforts we totally fun-raising!
In the end we exceeded our fundraising goal and in total raised over $78,000 to support mission critical needs for our school. Our classes celebrated with popcorn parties and the entire school enjoyed a fun day with animals and trainers from the Eco Station! Thank you to all who planned and participated in this fabulous event. It was a great day of community building and CLICnic-ing and our students had a great time.
Check out some fun pictures from the big day:
Thanks to a partnership with The Book Foundation and the Freed/Mendelson Family to create the Sylvia and David H. Freed Book Nook – a bilingual library and student work gallery for our whole community. Our Book Nook inauguration was anointed with star power when Newberry Award-Winning children’s book author, Kwame Alexander dropped in for a visit, filmed an episode of his Bookish show with singer Jordin Sparks, and led a schoolwide assembly and celebration of literacy.

Building a new facility did not hamper our relentless pursuit of academic excellence. CLIC outperformed demographically similar schools including all dual immersion schools in Los Angeles. As a result of CLIC’s promising performance, the school’s charter was unanimously renewed by the LAUSD school board on November 8th, 2017 for five more years.
CLIC’s unique model as an intentionally diverse, dual-immersion, tuition free public school that focuses on social-emotional learning, culturally responsive and relevant curriculum, and experiential learning make our school one-of-a-kind and we’re excited to continue the good work!

CLIC is grateful to The Riordan Foundation for awarding us two generous grants in the last three years – totaling $80,000. Each of the Instructional Innovation Grants have been used to support our inquiry based learning via technology and teacher support. These funds helped us purchase iPads and Chromebooks for students, and interactive whiteboards for every classroom at our new site. These grant dollars are also being used for teacher professional development and instructional materials for units of study.
